WhatsApp Web is a very useful feature of the world's most popular cross-platform messaging app. It lets you send and receive messages without having to download anything.
That was also one of its biggest limitations, since you couldn't make any voice or video calls, which is what a lot of people use WhatsApp for. Fortunately, the Meta-owned service has finally made it possible.
Group calling feature will be enabled soon as well
As WABetaInfo finds, WhatsApp is now gradually rolling out support for voice and video calls through its web portal. This functionality is initially being made available for individual chats to users who are already enrolled in the beta program.
Users will now be able to make voice and video calls directly from the web version of WhatsApp. Previously, they needed to download the standalone WhatsApp app for desktop. That will no longer be required.
Calls made through WhatsApp Web will be end-to-end encrypted, just like they are through the Android, iOS, and desktop apps. Web calls also have support for Screen Share, enabling users to share their device's screen with the other person.
An earlier report also highlighted that WhatsApp was working on a group calling feature for the web portal. This would enable users to make group video and voice calls through WhatsApp Web without having to install the desktop app.
That feature hasn't been rolled out yet and remains in development, currently. WhatsApp is making this feature live for individual chats first before ostensibly rolling it out for group chats.
